The observance of Moharram is a significantly important event held annually
by Syedna in different cities of the world. The ten-day commemoration and remembrance of the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS),
the grandson of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) is attended by thousands of community members from all parts of the world.
These solemn days are observed with extraordinary religious fervour. Syedna delivers discourses that educates, inspire and advise
the followers to abide by the principles of Islam for which Imam Husain (AS) chose martyrdom.
He also teaches the importance of preserving one’s cultural and religious identity in a modern world.
These gatherings also facilitate the meeting of community a members from different parts of the world and of
varied backgrounds to meet and enhance social and business relationships.
The institutionalization of mass marriages known as Rasme Saifee that is
managed by the International Taiseerun Nikah Committee is an important social development aspect as it encourages
the youth to wed and allows all strata of
community members to collectively marry in the presence of Syedna.
Apparently, several aspects of the Dawoodi Bohras’ life styles have been enriched and upgraded by Syedna.
The specially organized audiences (Bethak) of Syedna, the traditional practice of listening to and attending
to the grief and problems of daily life, have provided relief to many from their pains.
Low finance housing schemes sponsored by him, have made it possible for thousands to own their own homes.
Syedna envisioned and desired for the development of a specific Greater Mumbai area and upliftment of over 4,000
families residing in the area.
With Syedna’s blessings and inspiration, a public charitable Trust was created by the name of Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) which intends to turn this vision into reality by providing quality housing, modernized infra-structure and civic facilities at free of cost.
Syedna has encouraged the community’s development efforts by stating on his 92nd birthday celebrations that it be marked by efforts to uplift 9,200 Dawoodi Bohra families across the world. This directive from Syedna has widely encouraged community members to assist one another. This specific program is
primarily carried out by adopting an entire family in need or by providing one with business
know-how in order to help promote one’s financial and social well being or by providing monetary support to
develop one’s livelihood.
The numerous Public Trusts, hospitals and clinics established by Syedna have been of service to thousands of people
of all faiths and beliefs. The newly reconstructed, ultra-modern Saifee Hospital in Mumbai is a landmark effort of
Syedna in promoting quality healthcare facilities.
The Burhani Medical Idarah (BMI) established by Syedna is an international body of Dawoodi Bohra doctors.
BMI not only organizes health education programmes for medical
awareness within the community but also undertakes the
upgrading and development of medical institutes run by the Dawoodi Bohras world over.
Syedna’s unswerving philanthropic contributions and assistance to innumerable medical institutions and human welfare activities have ensured a remedial change in many a life.
His teachings and messages of love and comfort influence the homes and hearts of the faithful.
